If you work part-time in Australia while studying full-time it is important to know that if you study for 6 months or more (26 weeks or more) you will pay taxes as a RESIDENT of the country. This means that you will only pay 15% tax on your earnings which can be refunded to you at the end of the financial year. Earnings of up to AU$6000 are tax free and all taxes paid up to this level are 100% refundable.

If studying for less than 6 months (25 weeks or less) students will pay taxes as a NON-RESIDENT. This means on every dollar earned 30% tax will apply and this tax is non-refundable.
